Orient #CEM60002W Men's Day/Date Self Winding Automatic Sports Watch

Product Description

About Orient: Orient Watch was formally established in July 13th, 1950 in Tokyo. However, the history of Orient Watch really dates back to 1901, when Shogoro Yoshida, the founder of Orient, opened a wholesale watch store in Ueno, Japan. Orient Watch has always focused on mechanical watches, primarily automatic watches with its own in-house automatic movements Orient was once part of the "Big Three" watch companies in Japan along with Citizen and Seiko. In the 70s, when mechanical watch companies faced hardship from the mass introduction of inexpensive quartz watches, Citizen and Seiko took the path of mass producing quartz watches, Orient stuck with what it did best, making mechanical watches. Today, Seiko owns a controlling stake in Orient. Orient, however, continues to make its own mechanical movements. For its quartz models, it uses Seiko's quartz movements. What sets Orient apart from other watch companies is really the fact that Orient has always been focusing on making its mechanical movements better and more reliable. It is unusual today to find a watch company that makes its own movement selling watches at prices offered by Orient. Most of the watch companies that do make in-house movements are big name specialized watch companies such as Patek Philippe whose watches ranges from tens of thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. To find a specialized watch company that uses in-house movements selling its watches at prices that are affordable to most people is truly refreshing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Orient CEM6002 white dial, June 29, 2010

This watch has a very attractive satin white dial. It has a rotating bezel under the crystal that can be moved by the stem at the four o'clock position. The button at the two o'clock position changes the day of the week. The bracelet is very nice with alternating rows of polished and bright segments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute stunner, July 31, 2011

I simply fell in love with the image of this watch. Ordered and received it within 3 days in a nice box. My expectations were not belied. The bright white dial and the shiny bracelet exude an elegant and eye-catching exuberance. I removed a few links and adjusted it to my wrist. I did not have the right tools but still managed to do it with only a Jeweller's screw driver. You can only remove the links with a small hole on the back of the bracelet. An arrow beside the small hole indicates the direction in which you have to use the tool to push out the wedge. Remove two adjacent wedges and you can easily find out how to remove the link. After removing enough links push the wedge back in to secure it. A jeweller who can't examine the bracelet and guess how to remove the links must be an idiot.

Well, I just love the watch. It is definitely not a cheap china-made watch. It is 100% Orient, Orient. Orient.

I purchased this because my Invicta sub was starting to take a beating and I wanted another automatic to put in rotation. I was pricing Seiko's for two weeks and just couldn't decide on a model. I wanted something with a silver or white face. I was aware of Orients reputation as a great quality automatic watch and I was especially impressed that they still use their own in-house movement design. I happened upon this watch accidentally and fell in love with it's appearance. The silver and black face were equally handsome but the silver face was the one for me. The vendor shipped from California and I had it on the east coast in 3 days AND I was ordering over the weekend. Big kudos to Just Calculators for fantastic standard shipping. The watch was brand new and flawless. I took it out of the box, shook it gently to get the movement going, set the day/date/time and away we went. The links on this bracelet have a unique design that was much easier to size myself than the... Read more
